ABSTRACT
Complication occurs during postpartum was postpartum infection. Postpartum
infection is term used to describe microbe infection occurs in genitalia channel.
Predisposition factor of postpartum infection would be conditions which could reduce
mother general condition such as antepartum bleeding and mother's immunity factor.
Primary effector in cellular immunity is T-lymphocyte. Vitamin A is one of micro-nutrient
taking roles in development and differentiation of Th1 and Th2 subset. High dose of vitamin
A supplementation would increase cytokine produced by Th2. Vitamin A as prevention could
be given toward mother during postpartum which could increase health recovery of mother
and prevent infection to occur.
Design used in this study was experimental with post test only control group design.
Samples were 18 rats in postpartum divided into 2 groups, control group and treatment
group. IFN-γ rate and IL-4 rate measurement was done using ELISA (Enzyme Linked
Immunosorbent Assay). Data was analyzed statistically using Mann-Whitney test.
Result for IFN-γ obtain p-value of 0.258. This result showed that there was
insignificant difference between means of IFN-γ rate over control and treatment group.
Result for IL-4 rate obtained 0.863 (p 0.05). Study result showed that there was
insignificant difference of means of IL-4 rate between control group and treatment group.
It could be concluded that there was effect of vitamin A intake toward reduction of
IFN-γ rate but it was insignificant and there was no effect of vitami n A intake to increase
IL-4 rate in postpartum rats (Rattus norvegicus strain wistar).
